Did your feelings change from the beginning to the end of the book? Why do you think the author picked the title? What did you notice about the plot and climax? Hi poeple this is what i thought. when Gilly first came to live with Trotter she was the brattiest bratt in the world. she didn't even give Trotter a change. I would have given Trotter a chance. And what the heck is with Gilly swearing i mean sereasly we get it that your mad but your elevan you should not be swearing. thats one thing i do not like about this book. I also don't like how she treats W.E. because he is a cute little boy and Gilly needed to learn to be nicer to him. ok here is is the cheese, at first Gilly hatted Trotter and when she got to know Trotter and W.E. she decided that she loved them and she didn't want to be with her mom because she finally knew courtny didn't love her. POOR GILLY THAT JUST MAKES ME CRY WHEN A MOM DOSN'T LOVE HER CHILD THATS SAD!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteI think all the characters in this book are different from each other. Gilly swears a lot in this book. Mrs. Trotter is like the nice ansd kind one. W.E. is like the quite, patient litle kid. Mr. Randolph is like the carful one. Anges was like the happy littel girl. They all have different attitudes. I think the two main characters are GHilly and Mrs. Trotter.
I think the plot of this story was in Mrs. Trotter neighborhood. I think the nieghborhood was a little nieghborhood because they didn't tell much about the plot.

ReplyDeleteAt the beggining I did not like Gilly at all because she called Trotter names, she would swear,and she liked to get in fights. At the end I really liked Gilly because she was nice by letting W.E. fly her paper airplane, she took care of Trotter, Mr. Randolph, and W.E. when they were sick, and she showed feeling by crying when they made her leave Trotter's house.
My favorite charater was W.E. because he was shy when Gilly first came and later he really liked Gilly.
I wonder if Gilly will try to pull a trick on her new taecher and try to make her crazy? I don't think so because Gilly hs be come a better person because she dose care about her and other people, she tries harder at her work, and she help with Mr. Randolph. Do you think she will has become a better person?
I noticed about the characters that one of the characters are different like some are mean,nice, and some are kind and thougthful.Many people are different from each other.My feelings did change but not that much. In the begining I felt that gilly was a mean and selfish. But I noticed that Gilly is a nice person deep inside her heart. She just doesn't want other people think that she isn't cool.When she is sad her friends might think that she isn't cool anymore.At the begining my feelings changed because first I felt that Gilly was a mean person becuse she swears but then at the end she was nice because she wanted to go back and live with the Trotters. I think the author picked this title because this book is mostly about Gilly and how she go's to different families and foster homes. I also think that the author picked this book becuase she is the Great Gilly Hopkins. Because first she was the meanest becasue she yells and swears alot. Gilly is the main character and the author puts the name of the main character.I noticed that Gilly Hopkins wants to be a bad person because she swears and if she swears her friends or she thinks that is cool.

ReplyDeleteI think the author named the book The Great Gilly Hopkins because the book is about her greatest story. I liked the end of this book and I REALLY liked the last sentanse "no clouds of glory, but Trotter would be proud", because thruoghout the book Gilly dreamed that when she went back to live with her mom the angels would sing and blow trumpets of glory but when she was about to leeve she didnt want to :(
When i finished reading this book I had a thought about Gilly because in the beginning of the book Gilly wanted to live with her mother, but then at the end she wanted to live with Trotter. I wonder why is that? I think that near the climax Gilly was starting to be a little more of a kind hearted girl, like starting to like Trotter an dthe others more than when she started to live with them.Instead of the old Gilly who swear, and yell at people, or got scared by Mr. Randolph when she went for the first time to get Mr. Randolph for dinner.I think the author chose the title The Great Gilly Hopkins, because it's a girl name Gilly and she is a great girl in the book but not all the times. I think int eh title the author called her great because i think the word great is like another word for brave, and Gilly was brave enough to steal the money from Mr. Randolph. She was also brave enough to say I love you to Trotter before she actully say it in person to her mother. My thought about the book changed when we just got the book because, I thouhgt it was abouta girl name gilly and she was a girl who likes adventures, but it didn't turn out like that. Just by looking at the title it made me think that becasue, the backround of my book cover is like rocks or looks like inside of a cage, so I thought it might have somthing to do with adventure. I thought by looking at the cover at Gilly that Gilly was a tough young girl about my age, i thouhgt of that because her face gave my a clue with her looking tough. I like this book, and I think this is one of the best book i had read in a reading group before, becasue this is about foster and a girl that wants her real family but at the end she does but she wants to live with her foster family. I was confused near the end because, Gilly wanted to be with her real family, but at the end she doesn't want to be with her ral family. When I got done reading the book i wonder how would courtney feel if she knew that gilly wanted to live with Trotter, W.E. and Mr.Randolph?

At the beginning of the book Gilly was being dropped of to Trotter's house because Gilly had no family so I thought the book was going to be about a girl living with someone else but as you know you have to read on and see if something interesting might happen. So i read on and then things got really interesting when she was going leave Trotter and William Ernest (foster brother of Gilly)but then Gilly got caught by the cops and the cops called Trotter and when Trotter came with William Ernest Gilly was not going to go with Trotter back home William convince Gilly to come home.

ReplyDeleteI think Katherine Paterson called this book The Great Gilly Hopkins because the story tells about Gilly Hopkins and that how she moves from family to family every year. That seems SAD to have to move to a family than another!! I wouldn't want to be a kid that has to live with poeple I don't even know but I have to live with because it's a foster home.
I think this a great book because in the begining the author shows us that Gilly is mean because he yells and she does mean things to people. But then at the middle and close to the end the author

ReplyDeleteI thought that Gilly will never change in this book when we began reading this book. I thought that she was going to be a rude, disrespectful, mean and selfish (because of the way she act) through the whole book. When it got to the end, I really liked the way she started caring about Mrs. Trotter, W.E and Mr. Randolph. I think that she'll begin to change her attitude a bit and I hope she stops the swearing. I really liked this book.

ReplyDeleteSo Gilly went back home with Trotter and William. When I read the ending of the book I thought the ending was happy and great because Gilly got to see her mom again and Gilly changed a whole lot like stop agruing to Trotter and stoped callinng William names. When I think about how Gilly changed it made me think that Trotter thought that she could change Gilly. Thinking about that made me think why the book was called,"The Great Gilly Hopkins"? Could it be that Gilly did some great things or was it that the author wanted the reader to read the book? If you think you know the answer PLEASE POST DOWN!!!

ReplyDeleteIf you are confused what I posted on my 2nd comment it is contineing what I didn't finsh on my first comment. Also I think Gilly learned that you could like doing what ever you are doing if you just gave it a chance just like how i gave a chance playing soccor and now i like to play soccor.
I think I have too many questions in mind but, I want to know why when Gilly grandmother said hi to Courtney, Gilly said that wasn't her mother, she said her mothter was taller than what she saw when her grandmother said hi to her mother. Also I like the ending because, I think the main point of the story was that Gilly wanted to live with Courtney but really wanted to live with Trotter instead. I kinda think Gilly likes Trotter more than her mother, because I never read where there will say that Gilly said i love you to her mother instead I only read when Gilly said it to Trotter. Do you think Gilly wanted to see and live her mother Courtney after Trotter said she would never never never let someone take Gilly away? Well may you please tell me what you think. Here is what I think, I think that Gilly didn't want to really see her mother that much, well not as much as the beginning but she does a little. If you disagree i would say if she does then why would she call Trotter that she is going to live with Trotter an dthem again? Now if you disagree please response back too thank you!

ReplyDeleteagain i didnt think the beggining of this book was too good, for one thing it had no storyline, and for another it cursed way too much but in the middle when she ran away I think thats when the story started
I want to know if Gilly was Courtney only child?
